Apple has released macOS 11 (Big Sur)

At this time, SSCERT strongly recommends against upgrading to macOS11 (Big Sur)This is a major update, and many common software programs are not compatible with the new version.

These include the following:

  • UCLA Cisco AnyConnect VPN client
  • Sophos Anti-Virus
  • Various Adobe products
  • Older versions of Mac software (e.g., Office 2016, Parallels Desktop, Zoom)

If your Mac operating system is currently running on macOS 10.14 (Mojave) or 10.15 (Catalina), you do not need to do anything at this time.  Apple fully supports these versions.

If you are running macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or older, please consider upgrading to macOS 10.14.  Here are instructions from Apple.

SSC-ERT Windows Servers will be rebooted on Thursday, November 13, around 6pm for security patches and regular maintenance.

nicco.sscnet.ucla.edu has been upgraded to nicco2.sscnet.ucla.edu for security purpose.

*COMPLETED* Friday, 10/9/20, 4:30pm PST – Haines A level network maintenance

Haines A level network connectivity may go up and down during planned network maintenance between 4:30-5pm on Friday, the 9th.

 

 

RESTORED – Web Hosting Downtime 09-24-2020

Due to unannounced facilities maintenance, SSC experienced an outage with a number of divisional websites.  The SSC WebTeam has restored service and sites are now available again.

*COMPLETED* 08/28/20 – 4:30pm – Bunche A level, 1st and 2nd floor network maintenance

On Friday, August 28th, 4:30pm, SSC will do network maintenance impacting Bunche: A level, 1st floor, and 2nd floor.

During this time, the network may go up and down.

Expected downtime: 1 hour

 

Power Outage 8-10-2020

An unexpected power outage at 3:45AM has affected numerous SSC Services.  SSC Staff is working to restore affected services.

UPDATE 6:08AM – Power restored, SSC Staff is working to verify systems in the datacenter are coming back up.

*COMPLETED* email maintenance – Saturday, 8/8/20 – 9am-1pm

Social Sciences Computing will be conducting email maintenance between 9am-1pm on Saturday 8/8/20.

*COMPLETED* 07-18-20 – network maintenance – Bunche second floor

The second floor of Bunche network is undergoing maintenance.   Network connectivity may go up and down.  This post will be updated once completed.

6/14/20 Network Outage – RESTORED

UPDATE 10:02 PM: SSC Staff has restored network connectivity to affected subnets and is continuing to monitor the network.
